Over the last 26 years, the Otay Mesa Chamber of Commerce has organized what has become the region’s premier industrial trade show. Known as MEXPORT, the trade show’s goal is to facilitate cross-border trade by promoting supplier opportunities with major manufacturers in the Southern California/Baja California region. MEXPORT typically draws more than 180 exhibitors spanning everything from industrial equipment companies to freight forwarders and customs brokers from both sides of the border.
The trade show was kicked off with an inauguration ceremony and opening remarks from Alejandra Mier y Teran, Executive Director of the Otay Mesa Chamber of Commerce and additional special guests including newly elected Mayor of San Diego, Kevin Faulconer, and SBA San Diego District Director, Ruben Garcia, among others.
Incorporated into MEXPORT since 2012, this year’s show again featured business counseling sessions provided by San Diego CITD international trade counselors. Companies that pre-registered were able to take advantage of these sessions and receive assistance with starting or growing their exports.
In addition to the counseling sessions, the CITD also had a booth in the exhibit area to promote CITD services, Southwestern College’s International Logistics and Transportation, International Business and other programs offered at the college’s Higher Education Center at Otay Mesa. The booth space was shared with representatives from the SBA’s San Diego District Office and the San Diego Chapter of SCORE.
