The first annual North County Apprenticeship & Vocational Training Programs, Career EXPO at Palomar College was a collaboration of the San Diego County Office of Education’s Career Technical Education Department, Palomar College and the San Diego Workforce Partnership. The purpose of this event was to create awareness of San Diego’s apprenticeship and vocational training programs. Students from all north county high school districts and Palomar College participated in the Career Expo. The Expo provided an opportunity to promote apprenticeship and vocational programs and services to youth in the north county region. San Diego CITD’s Supply Chain and Logistics Apprenticeship Program (SCLAP), which trains apprentices for the Cargo and Freight Agent occupation exhibited in the Career Expo. The event brought awareness to all of the amazing career opportunities and allowed 297 students from nine high schools and Palomar College to learn about these career pathways. Similar events will take place in San Marcos and Escondido in the following months at the San Marcos Future Fair on April 24, 2019, and at the Escondido USD CTE Career Fair on September 26, 2019. These events bring thousands of high school students, parents and community members together so they can learn about different career pathways including apprenticeship and training programs, colleges and universities. Both events serve as a great opportunity to promote apprenticeship programs.
