Encinitas, CA–A 16-year-old San Dieguito Academy High School student was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of spray-painting racial and homophobic slurs on the school’s administration building, authorities said.

The juvenile was later released to the custody of his parents from the Sheriff’s North Coastal Station. The case will be presented to the San Diego District Attorney’s Office for prosecution and review.

On January 1, just before 4 a.m., an individual walked onto the San Dieguito Academy High School campus at 800 Santa Fe Drive in Encinitas and proceeded to spray paint the slurs on the administration building, causing nearly $725 in damage.

The youth’s identity was not released because he is a juvenile.
