ENCINITAS–Maintenance repairs on a large bluff that collapsed on Feb. 28 are scheduled for this weekend south of 4th Street in Encinitas.

Work crews are set to remove loose material, perform remedial grading and prepare the slope for unspecified stabilization work. Beach access could be restricted in the area during construction.

Authorities continue to warn the public not to sit, stand or walk within 50 feet of the bluffs. Sheriff’s deputies have increased their presence near the site of the collapse.

A SANDAG notice says another failure near the 4th Street is possible “due to cracks observed at the top of the bluffs.”

The bluff repairs are part of a San Diego Association of Governments work program that coincides with full closures of the railway between Oceanside and San Diego on March 20 to 22.

The 4th Street collapse occurred at the north end of Torrey Pines State Beach. City-controlled beaches begin at 6th Street.
