Oceanside, CA–A driver and a passenger were killed Friday when their vehicle crashed into a concrete retaining wall, struck a fire hydrant, and rolled over onto a lane in Oceanside, authorities said.
The single-vehicle collision occurred just after 5 p.m. when a 2008 Toyota Scion XB traveling northbound on College Boulevard drifted from the lane and struck the wall and fire hydrant. The vehicle rolled over and came to a rest in the northbound lanes near Avenida Empresa.
The driver of the Toyota was ejected from the vehicle. Both the driver and passenger were pronounced dead at the scene.
The Oceanside Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team is investigating the incident. It is unknown if alcohol was a factor in the collision.
The names of the victims are being withheld pending the notification of the next of kin.
