San Marcos, CA–A fast-spreading vegetation fire broke out Saturday near southbound Interstate 15 in Deer Springs.

Multiple fire crews from the San Marcos Fire Department and Cal Fire were dispatched just before noon to battle the 7 acres blaze on top of a hill.

Two lanes of southbound I-15 at Gopher Canyon Road were temporarily closed to traffic to allow fire engines access to the scene. The two lanes have since reopened in the area of the fire.

Firefighters were able to stop the spread of the fire by late afternoon. Crews are expected to remain at scene to contain the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
