Man killed after he intervened in a road rage altercation

February 7, 2021 by San Diego

OCEANSIDE–A man was killed after he intervened in a road rage altercation between two other men in Oceanside, the Oceanside Police Department said.

Oceanside police responded to a 5 p.m. report of a man bleeding from his head and not breathing in the 4700 block of Westridge Drive. Officers and paramedics arrived on scene shortly and began rendering medical aid to the 45-year-old man. The victim, whose name is being withheld, was pronounced dead at the scene, Oceanside Police Department spokesman Tom Bussey said.

Investigators revealed that an elderly man and another driver, Richard Ramirez, 53, were involved in a road rage incident. The elderly man drove to his residence and Ramirez followed him there. Both men exited their vehicles and a verbal argument ensued. The victim tried to intervene between the two men and was physically assaulted by Ramirez. He fled the area after the assault and was later arrested by police officers.

Ramirez was charged with suspicion of murder and booked into the Vista Detention Facility.
