January 19, 2021 by San Diego

OCEANSIDE–A female pedestrian was struck and killed early Sunday morning by a driver suspected of driving under the influence, the Oceanside Police Department said.

Oceanside police responded at 2:23 a.m. to a vehicle collision involving a pedestrian in the 3300 block of Oceanside Blvd. Upon arrival, officers located an unresponsive female with a head injury lying in the westbound lanes. Despite life saving measures, the female pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

The pedestrian was walking in the eastbound lanes of Oceanside Blvd when she was struck by a minivan traveling eastbound in the number 3 lane. The driver stopped and called the police. An evaluation of the driver found the 43-year-old female was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the collision and was arrested on scene. It is unknown if the pedestrian was under the influence of any substance.

The name of the deceased has not been released pending family notification.

The investigation is ongoing.
