Oceanside, CA–A 50-year-old man suffered serious injuries after he was struck by a vehicle Friday evening in Oceanside, authorities said.

Oceanside Police responded to a report around 8:14 p.m. of the collision at North El Camino Real and Coco Palms Drive.

Officers arrived at the scene and found a man down in the roadway. He was transported to Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla for critical injuries. The driver of the vehicle stopped, attempted to aid the pedestrian, and remained at the scene to provide a statement to officers.

Due to the severity of the man’s injuries, the Major Accident Investigation Team was called in to investigate the accident. Impairment by alcohol or drugs is not suspected as a factor in the collision, officials said.

The roadway was closed for approximately four hours while the scene was investigated. The Oceanside Police Department is handling the investigation.
