Oceanside, CA–A small plane carrying two people crashed in an empty field killing one woman, and injuring a man Friday in Oceanside, authorities said.

Oceanside Fire Department personnel and police officers responded to a reported plane crash at 1:47 p.m. east of New Foussat Road and westbound State Route 76.

The victims were trapped inside the fuselage, but fire crews used hydraulic-powered cutters to open the aircraft’s door. The man was flown by air ambulance from the REACH air base at Oceanside Fire Department’s Training Center. The woman was ground transported to Tri-City Medical Center where she was later pronounced dead.

The cause of the crash is currently under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board and the FAA.
