Oceanside, CA–An electrical fire at a retail store Wednesday afternoon caused multiple stores at an Oceanside shopping center to lose power, fire officials said.

Oceanside and Carlsbad Fire Departments firefighters were dispatched to a commercial fire at Tillys, located at the El Camino North Shopping Center. Employees had evacuated from the store prior to the fire crews’ arrival.

Several businesses at the center were forced to close due to a power outage caused by the fire.

A section of the parking lot near the stores was closed to traffic while crews inspected each business’s electrical systems.

“The source of the electrical fire was thought to have come from the HVAC units on top of Tilly’s. This was likely caused by the intermittent power outage,” the Oceanside Fire Department said.

San Diego Gas and Electric crews were called to the center to repair the electrical system.

The cause of the electrical fire is under investigation.
