Encinitas, CA–A 42-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of setting her parents’ home on fire in Encinitas.
On Wednesday, Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call around 2:45 p.m. of smoke coming from a house in the 1400 block of Via Terrassa. Deputies and firefighters arrived and extinguished the small fire.
There was no one home at the time and the fire appeared suspicious to firefighters and investigators.
Detectives from the Sheriff’s Bomb and Arson Unit were contacted to investigate the origin and cause of the fire.
Detectives determined the cause of the fire to be arson. They also learned the victims and their daughter, Stacey Eaton, had gotten into an argument earlier in the afternoon.
Several hours later, deputies found Eaton hiding a couple of blocks away from the home and arrested her. She was arrested for arson to an inhabited dwelling, elder abuse, and a violation of a restraining order. Eaton was booked at the Vista Detention Facility.
The home suffered moderate smoke damage. The fire was confined to just one room.
