Beach closure lifted for Coronado and Silver Strand shorelines

San Diego, CA–Beach closures for Avenida Lunar Coronado and Silver Strand shorelines were lifted this weekend after water quality samples met California health standards, the San Diego County Department of Environmental Health and Quality reported.

Beaches remain under advisories for North Cove Vacation Isle in Mission Bay, Tourmaline Surf Park in Pacific Beach, La Jolla Cove, and the Children’s Pool. Beachgoers are advised that bacteria levels have exceeded state health standards and may cause illnesses.

The ocean shoreline from the International Border to the south of Silver Strand will remain closed until sampling confirms these areas are safe for water contact. The Tijuana River is flowing, with sewage contamination reaching recreational waters. The public is advised to avoid water contact as the water is impacted by sewage.
