County air quality complaint data is more accessible

San Diego, CA–The San Diego County Air Pollution Control District has made a considerable improvement to making air quality complaints data easily accessible.

The district has published an interactive mapping tool with public information related to air quality complaints on its website.

The mapping tool is part of an ongoing district effort to make its data easily accessible to the public. With this tool, the public can easily identify communities reporting air quality concerns, as well as the district response information. The public can view general complaint location, the type of complaint, average response time, complaint resolution, and number of complaints that are submitted monthly.

The longtime complaint program has been useful in addressing and identifying issues of concern for the region. It has field inspectors who are available 24/7 to investigate air quality concerns such as odors, truck idling, smoke, dust, and improper asbestos removal. Air quality concerns can be submitted online, over the phone, or via a mobile app (Apple App Store) and the (Android Play Store).

“Over the past few years we have made many improvements to the agency and increasing public engagement, as well as access to information is at the top of our list. Our goals are to be transparent and accessible to the public, so improving accessibility to our complaints program data brings us a step closer to this goal,” stated Paula Forbis, Director of  San Diego County Air Pollution Control District.

The tool will be presented at the next San Diego County Air Pollution Control District Governing Board meeting on January 11 at 2 p.m.

More information about San Diego County Air Pollution Control District’s complaint program and the mapping tool can be found on their complaints webpage, sdapcd.org/air-quality-complaints.
