Vista, CA–A suspected impaired driver was arrested on Monday after crashing through a median fence and colliding with another vehicle in North County, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department said.

The incident occurred just after 2:30 p.m. near North Santa Fe Avenue and Vista Village Drive in Vista.

A deputy was patrolling the area when he saw a blue Audi, driven by 33-year-old Saul Celerino Villanueva Delgado, driving recklessly and at a high rate of speed. As the deputy tried to catch up to the Audi, Villanueva made an illegal U-turn and ran the red light at North Santa Fe Avenue and East California Avenue. Villanueva then lost control of his car, crashing through the median fence before colliding with a Nissan SUV, San Diego Sheriff’s Department Sergeant Eric Cottrell said in a news release.

Deputies came to the aid of the two occupants inside the SUV, as well as Villanueva. One of the individuals in the SUV was transported to the hospital for evaluation.

Villanueva was also taken to the hospital and placed under arrest for driving under the influence.
