Man arrested in connection with Spring Valley murder

Spring Valley, CA–A man was arrested on Wednesday in connection with the fatal shooting of a man found lying in the street in Spring Valley on April 15, 2021, San Diego County Sheriff’s Department said.
The suspect, identified as 56-year-old John David Lopez, was charged with the death of 67-year-old David Martinez of San Diego. Lopez was booked into the San Diego Central Jail for murder.
According to Sheriff’s Department investigators, the nature of the relationship between Lopez and the victim is unclear. The motivation and circumstances are still under investigation.
In April 2021, Sheriff’s deputies responded to the 1500 block of Presioca Street in Spring Valley at around 5:30 p.m. for a report of a shooting. When deputies arrived, they found an adult male lying in the street with trauma to his upper body. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
