Pedestrian struck and killed on State Route 94

San Diego, CA–A pedestrian walking within the traffic lanes of eastbound State Route 94 near 28th Street was struck and killed by a vehicle Saturday night in the South Bay.

The pedestrian attempted to cross the lanes of traffic and was struck by a Chevrolet Silverado driven by a 44-year-old male. The pedestrian sustained major injuries and was pronounced dead. 

The left two lanes were closed for approximately one hour and forty minutes to facilitate the on-scene investigation. It is unknown if the pedestrian was under the influence of drugs or alcohol. A toxicology report is pending through the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office. 

The driver of the Chevrolet was uninjured, remained on scene, and cooperated with the investigation. The driver was determined not to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

The California Highway Patrol San Diego Area is investigating the incident. 

The name of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin.
