Residential fire injures one, displaces multiple people in Vista

Oceanside, CA–A residential structure fire injured one person and displaced 13 others in Vista on Saturday, fire officials said.

Oceanside and Vista Fire Departments responded to a call of a structure fire just after 12 p.m. in the 2900 block of Thunder Drive.

The fire, which initially started on the exterior of the house, rapidly spread into the attic and one bedroom before firefighters arrived at the scene. Due to heavy, pressurized smoke emerging from the attic vents, fire crews utilized chainsaws to cut a large opening in the roof. This tactical ventilation allowed the superheated gasses to escape, preventing the further spread of fire and facilitating the extinguishment of the blaze.

The Red Cross was called to provide support and resources to those affected residents. One individual received on-scene treatment for smoke exposure but did not require hospitalization.

The cause of the structure fire is under investigation.
