20-year-old motorist killed in solo vehicle crash

Oceanside, CA–A 20-year-old motorist traveling eastbound on Mission Avenue was killed early Sunday morning when he crashed into a  traffic signal pole in Oceanside, authorities said.

Oceanside police responded to calls of a solo crash around 12:13 a.m. at the intersection of Mission Avenue and Mesa Drive. 

When officers arrived at the scene, they found a 2005 Nissan Altima had collided with the pole on the southeast corner of the intersection. The driver had sustained fatal injuries due to the collision, according to Oceanside Police Department Public Information Officer Jennifer Atenza. 

It is unknown if alcohol or speed was a factor in the collision. The investigation is ongoing, authorities say. 

No other vehicles were involved, and the driver was the car’s sole occupant. His name is withheld pending the notification of next of kin.
