El Cajon, CA–A felony sex offender staying at an east county inn was arrested for probation violation, El Cajon Police Department said.
On March 18, El Cajon police along with the San Diego County Probation Department conducted a probation compliance check at around 7:45 a.m. at the Quality Inn and Suites located at 650 North Mollison Avenue.
Officers arrived at the motel to arrest Troy Snelling, 41, for failing to register as a felony sex offender. Snelling violated the terms of his probation for his convicted sex crimes. When officers made contact with him, he threw a plastic bag containing 24.26 grams of methamphetamine out of the motel room sliding glass door. Officers retrieved the bag of methamphetamine and arrested him, El Cajon Police Department stated in a news release.
While speaking with Snelling, officers learned he was part of the County of San Diego’s hotel voucher program. Snelling said in January he was staying at Rancho San Diego Inn and Suites when he noticed a table in the lobby with a representative from Equus Workforce Solutions, which is a contractor for the county involving hotel vouchers. He said Equus provided him $2,000 in hotel vouchers every two weeks and that could last up to 2 years. Snelling said he has been using hotel vouchers from Equus since the beginning of January.
Snelling is charged with probation violations including failing to report to his probation officer, testing positive for narcotics while on probation, and possession of narcotics for sale.
