Man charged with assault of minor dies at hospital

Vista, CA–A 71-year-old man in Sheriff’s Department custody died on May 16 from medical issues at Tri-City Hospital in Vista, authorities said.
Sheriff’s homicide investigators were notified of Maximillian Aguirre’s death at the hospital around 3 p.m. Aguirre had extensive medical issues unrelated to his incarceration and had been hospitalized since March 29.
“We extend our sympathies to the Aguirre family and those affected by his death. A Sheriff’s Family Liaison Officer will support the family as they deal with the loss of a loved one,” the Sheriff’s Department said in a news release.
Aguirre was arrested on December 16, 2021, by the Fugitive Task Force and booked into Sheriff’s custody. He was charged with 4 counts of sexual assault of a minor under 10 years of age and 11 counts of lewd lascivious acts with a child under 14 years of age with force. He resided in Spring Valley at the time of his arrest.
The Citizen’s Law Enforcement Review Board was notified of this incident.
As is the protocol for all in-custody deaths, the Sheriff’s Homicide Unit will conduct a thorough investigation.
The cause and manner of death will be determined by the Medical Examiner’s Office.
