Oceanside Police Dept. announces new assistant chief of police

Oceanside, CA–The Oceanside Police Department announced Tuesday its newly appointed Assistant Chief of Police, Captain Taurino Valdovinos. The appointment comes as Assistant Chief Sean Marchand retired on December 22.

According to the Oceanside Police Department, Captain Valdovinos, with an impressive 20-year tenure in the department, brings a wealth of experience to his new role. His diverse career has seen him undertake various specialized assignments, including roles in the Gang Suppression Unit, Special Enforcement Section, and Neighborhood Police Team.

Throughout his career, Captain Valdovinos served as a sergeant in the Patrol Division before assuming leadership as the sergeant in charge of the Neighbor Policing Team. As a lieutenant, he managed the General Investigations Section, as well as the Community Policing and Support Operations Section.

Currently overseeing the Support Operations Division, Valdovinos has established himself as a dedicated law enforcement professional. His educational background includes a Bachelor’s Degree from Saint Mary’s College and a Master’s Degree from the University of Cincinnati. He is a distinguished graduate of the FBI National Academy, belonging to class #281.

Valdovinos is also actively engaged with the Oceanside community. He played a pivotal role in initiating the Oceanside Youth Partnership mentorship program within the department.

“Captain Valdovinos is a proven leader in our department who will bring many strengths and talents to his new assignment,” Chief Kedrick Sadler stated.
