One man dead, one seriously injured in San Marcos shooting

San Marcos, CA–A shooting in San Marcos Wednesday afternoon left one man dead, and another man seriously injured, authorities said.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon around 1:30 p.m. at the 1300 block of West Borden Road. 

Upon arrival at the location, deputies discovered a 19-year-old man on the ground near a park entrance. That man had what appeared to be gunshot wounds to his upper torso. Deputies located a 20-year-old male in the passenger seat of a nearby vehicle with what appeared to be a gunshot wound to his neck, Sheriff’s Department Lieutenant Chris Steffen stated in a news release

Both men were transported to the hospital for treatment. The 19-year-old victim was pronounced deceased at the hospital. The 20-year-old victim is in critical condition.

According to the Sheriff’s Department, the relationship between the victims is unknown. The identities of the victims are known but are being withheld at this time. Deputies believe the shooting was an isolated incident.

The motivation and circumstances of the incident are under investigation.
