San Marcos, CA– A trash recycling truck struck and killed a pedestrian Friday in San Marcos, authorities said.

Deputies were dispatched to a reported collision around 11:58 a.m. at the EDCO Recycling Buyback Center facility at 244 South Las Posas Road.

When deputies and San Marcos Fire Department personnel arrived at the facility they determined the pedestrian died at the scene, Sheriff’s Department Sergeant Charles Morreale said in a news release.

According to the Sheriff’s Department, the preliminary investigation determined that the driver of the EDCO recycling truck was backing to the scales at the facility when his truck struck the pedestrian. The victim’s identity is unknown and deputies are conducting their investigation. The driver remained on scene and EDCO is cooperating with the investigation.

The investigation is ongoing, and the Sheriff’s STAR Team is handling the investigation.
