San Diego, CA–The San Diego Superior Court has ordered the conditional release of sexually violent predator Alan Earl James to East County.

The California Department of State Hospitals has recommended the placement of James at 1138 Custer Road in Campo. He was convicted of sexual assaults dating back to 1981 and 1985.

While this address falls within the jurisdiction of the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, neither the Sheriff’s Department, the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office, or the Sexual Assault Felony Enforcement Task Force is responsible for the selection of the proposed site. The selection process involves the California Department of State Hospitals and the San Diego Superior Court.

With the hearing scheduled for February 9, the Sexual Assault Felony Task Force will be accepting public comments about the proposed placement to be included in the formal response to the court and the Department of State Hospitals.

Campo residents have the opportunity to support or object to the proposed placement before it is finalized. The District Attorney’s Office and the task force will submit comments for the court’s consideration.

Comments will be accepted between January 10, and January 24.

Residents can email their comments regarding placement to sdsafe@sdsheriff.org. They can also call (858) 583-7238. Mail comments to SVP Release/SAFE Task Force, 9425 Chesapeake Drive, San Diego, CA 92123.

Oral comments may be accepted subject to court ruling during a hearing on February 9 at 9 a.m. before Judge David M. Gill at San Diego Superior Court Department 2204, 1100 Union Street in San Diego.
