Borrego Springs, CA–The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office released the identity of a woman who was killed by her son in their home last week in Borrego Springs.
The victim was identified as 63-year-old Leona Guevara, authorities said.
Her son, Jacob Guevara was arrested and charged with murder. He was booked into the Vista Detention Facility.
On November 18, a deputy responded to the 2800 block of Borrego Springs Road to check the welfare of one of the residents. A family member requested the check on her mother because of the living conditions. Upon arrival, the deputy was told by the family member that she saw blood in the house and her mother was not home. The family member stated three people were in the home, including her brother 41-year-old Jacob Guevara.
The deputy searched the home and found what appeared to be the deceased mother. She had apparent stab wounds to her body. Fire department medical personnel pronounced the victim dead at 3:15 p.m.
The deputy detained all the individuals in the home while homicide detectives completed a search warrant for the residence, and conducted an investigation.
The circumstances of the crime are still under investigation.
