Motorcyclist killed in traffic collision in Carlsbad

Carlsbad, CA–A motorcyclist was killed Saturday when he struck the back of a vehicle and was ejected in the roadway in Carlsbad, authorities said.
Carlsbad police responded to calls of a traffic collision involving a vehicle and a motorcyclist around 6:28 p.m. in the 4500 block of Carlsbad Boulevard.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found a Kawasaki motorcycle had collided with the back of a Chevy SUV. The motorcyclist, a 25-year-old male from Kentucky, was ejected and injured in the roadway. He was treated by medical personnel at the scene and transported to a local trauma center. He was later pronounced dead.
According to the Carlsbad Police Department, the motorcyclist was traveling southbound on Carlsbad Blvd. at a high rate of speed and collided with the back of the SUV.
The driver of the SUV, a 28-year-old male from Oceanside, remained at the scene and was cooperating with investigators.
The identity of the motorcyclist is being withheld pending the notification of his next of kin.
The cause of the collision is still under investigation, and it is not believed drugs or alcohol were a factor.
The Carlsbad Police Department is seeking additional witnesses to the collision and requests they contact Accident Investigator Corporal Bowen with any information.
