Truck driver killed in solo traffic collision

San Marcos, CA–A driver was killed when his truck collided with a traffic signal pole in San Marcos Monday, authorities said.
According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, deputies responded to a collision near the intersection of South Santa Fe Avenue and North Rancho Santa Fe Road that occurred after 6 a.m. Upon arrival, they discovered a white truck had collided with a traffic signal pole. First responders arrived to assist the sole occupant of the truck, but despite their efforts, the driver died of his injuries.
According to preliminary findings from the investigation, the truck was traveling north on North Rancho Santa Fe Road and attempted to make a turn onto South Santa Fe Avenue, resulting in a collision with the traffic signal pole. It remains unclear whether a medical emergency, drugs, or alcohol contributed to the crash.
The Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct a thorough examination to positively identify the victim and determine the cause and manner of death. Notification of the findings will be made to the family.
