Driver killed in head-on collision in north count

Vista, CA–A driver was killed in a two-vehicle head-on collision in North County on Thursday morning, the Sheriff’s Department said.
Deputies responded to calls of a vehicular collision just before 7 a.m. in the 400 block of North Melrose Drive in Vista
According to the Sheriff’s Office, a Chevy traveling northbound on Melrose Drive drifted into the southbound lane and collided with a Toyota head-on. First responders provided life-saving measures on the driver of the Chevy, but he died at the scene. The driver of the Toyota was not injured, Sheriff’s Office Sergeant Eric Cottrell said in the department’s news release.
Northbound and southbound traffic lanes between Copper Drive and Olive Avenue on North Melrose were closed for several hours.
Authorities said it is not known if alcohol or drugs played a role in the vehicular collision.
The Sheriff’s Traffic Accident Reconstruction team is investigating the incident.
