Santee, CA–One driver was taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol at a checkpoint conducted by the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department in Santee Friday night.
Deputies from the Santee Sheriff’s Station conducted a Driving Under the Influence/Driver’s License checkpoint from 8:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. in the 8700 block of Fanita Drive.
According to the Sheriff’s Department, the total number of vehicles that went through the checkpoint was 525. Vehicles sent to secondary for evaluation were 35. There were 2 DUI evaluations, but no drug arrests.
In addition, 6 drivers were cited for operating a vehicle unlicensed, two drivers were cited for operating a vehicle with a suspended license, and one driver with a provisional license was cited for driving with other minors as passengers. Two vehicles were also towed.
From December 13 through New Year’s Day, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department will have additional officers on patrol looking for drivers suspected of being under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. The high-visibility enforcement effort is part of a national campaign, Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over, to stop suspected impaired drivers who put others on the road at risk.
Funding for this DUI/Driver’s License Checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
