Woman barricades in vehicle on freeway following felony vandalism

Carlsbad, CA–A woman suspected of felony vandalism barricaded inside a vehicle that forced the closure of all northbound lanes on Interstate 5 on Thursday afternoon in Carlsbad, authorities said.
The Carlsbad Police Department was notified around 11:56 a.m. about a female suspect who had fled the area in a rideshare after committing felony vandalism against a vehicle at the 6000 block of Paseo Del Norte.
Officers identified the woman as 39-year-old Darneisha Hill from San Diego.
Officers located the rideshare vehicle with the woman inside and initiated a stop on the vehicle. When officers approached the vehicle, she produced and brandished a large knife and made life-threatening statements. The rideshare driver was safely rescued from the vehicle. After a short pursuit, the vehicle was disabled on the northbound I-5 freeway. The suspect refused to exit or comply with officers’ directions.
The police department’s Special Weapons and Tactics Team and Crisis Negotiations Team responded and established communication with her. After approximately ninety minutes of negotiations and de-escalation techniques, she peacefully surrendered. She was taken into custody and booked into Vista Detention Facility for an outstanding felony warrant from a prior incident, felony vandalism, brandishing a knife, assault with a deadly weapon, carjacking, resisting arrest, and felony evading. A knife was recovered at the scene.
