Driver waving for help struck by vehicle on SR- 163

San Diego, CA–A San Diego man waving for help from motorists following a solo vehicle crash early Friday morning on State Route 163 was struck by an oncoming vehicle, the California Highway Patrol said.
On Friday, at around 12:55 a.m., the 28-year-old man was driving a Nissan Sentra on SR-163 northbound, south of Genesee Avenue. The Nissan veered left off the roadway and struck the center median wall.
Following the collision, the Nissan became disabled within traffic lanes. The man exited the vehicle and was attempting to get assistance from passing motorists when he was struck by a Toyota Camry, driven by a 26-year-old man from San Diego. The man was transported to a local hospital with major injuries, CHP Public Information Officer Jesse Matias stated in a news release.
According to CHP, drugs or alcohol were not suspected to be a factor in the collision. The driver of the Toyota was uninjured and remained on the scene following the collision.
The cause of the collision is still under investigation by the California Highway Patrol San Diego Area.
